General MacArthur's Prayer

(General Douglas MacArthur's "A Prayer For My Son" )

Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.

Build me a son whose wishes will not take the place of deeds; a son who will know Thee — and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge.

Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.

Build me a son whose heart will be clear, whose goals will be high; a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men; one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.

And after all these things are his, give him, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, and the meekness of true strength.

Then I, his father, will dare to whisper, “I have not lived in vain.”

The new school prayer

Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed in most public schools anymore because the word 'God' is mentioned.....A kid in Arizona wrote the attached. Humorous and sad. 

Pray for the youth of this country.

Where praying is against the rule

For this great nation under God

Finds mention of Him very odd.

If scripture now the class recites,

It violates the Bill of Rights.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,

That's no offense; it's a freedom scene..

The law is specific, the law is precise.

Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall

Might offend someone with no faith at all..

In silence alone we must meditate,

God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,

And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks...

They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.

To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,

And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.

It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,

We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong..

We can get our condoms and birth controls,

Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles ..

But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,

No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,

When chaos reigns the school's a mess.

So, Lord, this silent plea I make:

Should I be shot; My soul please take!

有一传道人在印度设立一间麻疯病院，专收麻疯病人，每日向他们传福音，并为他们洗伤口。一人见之，对他说："就是给我一百万元一天，我也不干这种工作。"传道人回答："如果是为着一百万元一天，我也不干这种工作"。


有基督徒参观西班牙的大礼拜堂。礼拜堂的人将堂内金银珠宝指给他看，并得意地说："今天我们可以不再和彼得同说'金银我都没有'那样寒酸的话了。"弟兄回答："不错，同样，你们也不能和彼得同说'我奉拿撒勒人耶稣的名，叫你起来行走'那样的话了"。


某信徒欲拿一火腿给穷人，拿的时候心中起了交战，一个声音说："拿大的!"一个声音说："拿小的"!最后他拿了一个顶大的。魔鬼又对他说："都是一只火腿，何必这么大呢"？他就说："魔鬼，你若再出声，我就把所有的火腿都给啦"!


有人问慕勒弟兄："你平日有没有储蓄"？慕勒答："这是太愚笨的方法。若我将款储蓄下来，当我缺乏之时，我怎能求告主呢"？


一商人去见一传道人，为福音工作奉献250金元。当他把支票递给传道人之时，接到一封电报，阅后面色改变，对传道人说："我的一艘货船沉没，使我的情况大大改变，我需要重新写一张支票给你"。传道人明白，就把支票交还。但商人另写一张支票时，面额写1000元。传道人问他有没有写错。商人答："没写错。刚才那封电报是由天上我们的父神那里打来的，内文说：'不要积攒财宝在地上'!"


一日，普鲁士大帝在宫中大筵宾客。会中大帝说："名录于天，那是何等美好的事"!法国的无神论哲学家伏尔泰以骄傲的态度、轻蔑的口吻说："只要有人给我一枚普鲁士小钱，我愿意出卖我在天上的座位"。席中有一议员，是虔诚的基督徒，立即起来回答他说："亲爱的先生，我们有一条法律，有谁出卖东西，必须拿出证据，证明那东西是他的。现在你能证明你有天上的座位吗"？


戴雅各(戴德生的曾祖父)在传福音时，常被人投掷小石、粪粒。有次在讲道时，一妇人拿锅底用力擦其新大衣的后背。戴雅各转过身来，含笑对她说："如果你喜欢这样作，可以再擦这一面。"

有一基督徒农夫，常将他所有的大量给人，可是他从未因此缺乏，反倒日渐丰富。朋友觉得很奇怪，就个中秘诀。他答："很简单。我有一个量器，神也有一个量器。我用我的量器量给人，神就用他的量器量给我。但是神的量器，比我的大得多，所以我无论怎样量，都无法胜过他"。


一白人到非洲经商，见一黑人坐在树下读经，白人讥笑他说："这书在我们国家已没有价值了"。黑人指着自己的肚子回答说："这书若是没有价值，你早已进到我肚子里了"。


一青年从街边长椅走过，见一男孩手捧圣经欢乐高语："赞美神!赞美神!"问其故。男孩说："我在看出埃及记，上帝叫红海分开，使以色列人安然过去，上帝真是太奇妙、太伟大了!"青年说："你不知道，那时红海的水只有十英寸深，以色列人是涉水过去的。"男孩楞住。青年得意地走开。未走几步，听见男孩又在高声说："赞美神!赞美神!"青年返回问其故。男孩答："我发现上帝比我所想像的还伟大。他只用十英寸深的水就把埃及人都淹死了"!


英国一农夫在新建的谷仓顶上装一风向针，上写："神就是爱。"一友见之，不解而问："难道上帝的爱也像风一样会变吗？"农夫答："不是。无论风往哪个方向吹，都有上帝的爱在那里!

多看人優點，則你是聚寶盆。多看人缺點，則你是垃圾桶。

德國青年卜勞恩，又一次失業了。

滿大街轉了一圈，也沒有找到工作。情緒極度低落的蔔勞恩去酒吧坐了半天，直到將身上最後一塊錢換了酒喝下肚後，才拖著疲憊的身軀回家。

可是，家裡也不是天堂，他寄予厚望的兒子”克利斯蒂安”並沒有給他爭氣，他的成績居然比上學期還退步了。他狠狠地瞪了”克利斯蒂安”一眼，再也不想跟他說話，便回到自己的房間呼呼大睡了。

當蔔勞恩醒來的時候，已是第二天早上。

他習慣性地拿起筆補寫昨天的日記：

5月6日，星期一，真是個倒楣的日子，工作沒找到，錢花光了，更可氣的是兒子又考砸了，這樣的日子還有什麼盼頭?

蔔勞恩來到兒子的房間，打算叫兒子起床，但”克利斯蒂安”早已經自己上學去了。就在此時，蔔勞恩突然發現兒子的日記本忘記鎖進抽屜了，於是他便忍不住好奇，看了起來：

5月6日，星期一，這次考試不太理想，但我晚上將著個消息告訴爸爸的時候，他卻沒有責備我，而是深情地盯著我看了一會兒，使我深受鼓舞。我決定努力學習，爭取下次考好，不辜負爸爸的期望。

怎麼會是這樣呢，自己明明是惡狠狠地瞪了兒子一眼，怎麼變成深情地盯著他看了一會呢?

蔔勞恩好奇地翻看起兒子以前的日記：

5月5日星期天，山姆大叔的小提琴拉得越來越好了，我想，有機會我一定要去請教他，讓他教我拉小提琴。

蔔勞恩又是一驚，趕緊拿起自己的日記本來看：

5月5日，星期天，這個該死的山姆，又在拉他的破提琴，本想多睡一會兒，又被他吵得不安生。如果再這樣下去，我非報警沒收了他的破提琴不可。

蔔勞恩跌坐在椅子上，半天無語，他不知道從什麼時候起，他已變得如此悲觀厭世，煩躁不安，難道自己對生活的承受力還不如一個小孩子嗎？從此，蔔勞恩變得積極和開朗起來。

他日記裡的內容也完全變了：

5月7日，星期二，今天又找了一天工作，雖然還是沒哪家單位聘請我，但我從應聘的過程中學到不少東西。我想，只要總結經驗，明天我一定能找到一份滿意的工作。

5月8日，星期三，今天我終於找到工作了，雖然是一份鉗工的工作。但我想，我一定能成為世界上最出色的鉗工。他，就是德國著名漫畫巨匠埃‧奧‧蔔勞恩。

蔔勞恩於1903年3月18日 生於德國”福格蘭特”山區，曾經在工廠當過鉗工，給報刊畫過漫畫，為書籍畫過插圖。而最廣為人知的是他的連環畫《父與子》。

後來有人問蔔勞恩：”聽說您是因為一本日記改變了觀念，並成了大師的嗎？”

蔔勞恩說，是的，確實是因為一本日記，但需要申明的是，那個大師不是我，真正的大師是我的兒子——克利斯蒂安。

I certainly don't think an adult could explain this more beautifully! It was written by an 8-year-old named Danny Dutton, who lives in Chula Vista , CA . He wrote it for his third grade homework assignment, to 'explain God. ' I wonder if any of us could have done as well ?  

EXPLANATION OF GOD:

'One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn't have to take up his valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.'

'God's second most important job is listening to prayers An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way to turn it off.'

'God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by going over your mom and dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have.'

'Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in Chula Vista . At least there aren't any who come to our church.'

'Jesus is God's Son.  He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of him preaching to them and they crucified him. But he was good and kind, like his father, and he told his father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said O.K.' And God did not let Jesus stay in the grave, but raised him from the dead

'His dad (God) appreciated everything that he had done and all his hard work on earth so he told him he didn't have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. So he did. And now he helps his dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones he can take care of himself without having to bother God . Like a secretary, only more important.'

'You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.'

'You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God!

Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong. And besides the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway.'

'If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're scared, in the  dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids.'

'But...you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases.

And...that's why I believe in God.'
